This is one of the only photos I took this week. The title “Comfort Friends” comes to mind as their friendship seems like a good bowl of spaghetti and meatballs on a Sunday night. I have spent the week seeking interesting photos and keep coming up short. I have had a hard time seeing the good photos right in front of me. The week after Christmas seemed like some sort of hibernation and I swear all brain activity has ceased. So rather than dwell on my lack of creativity at the moment, I’ll try to look forward to when creativity may strike again. I think that’s what January is all about. A quick assessment tells us of what we need to do to make it a good year. On New Years Day, I checked out my horoscope. Did you know that the internet says you can predict your year based on Numerology(whatever that is), Junishi (A Japanese “science” based on animals), or even by blood type! I think I’ll stick to the stars, as they have been around forever and must contain the wisdom within. Virgo looks to have a busy year, apparently with no break in sight before 2013. Even better, Saturn is going to give me the go ahead to spend more money this year. How lucky am I to get permission from a planet millions of miles away to spend some hard earned cash! How could you negate the stars as they have been around practically forever? Despite the questionable science behind astrology , I’ll go with it. Apparently, when a Virgo finally says yes, our “laser-like focus of our passion is anything but prudish.” Yesterday, I got some moxie and went searching for some studio space. It just feels right. If I get the guts to bite the bullet, I can only hope my horoscope is spot on and I’ll be busy making something of this craft. I'll be looking to the stars for inspiration and I can only hope that they may look back down on me and help me to shine.

WillWalterWe dug up this jean jacket from the 80'sAnnikaAislinnKateFamily is everything. We diffuse and spread out as we get older, but we always come back to each other. On Dec. 26th, we all lingered together trying to absorb just a little bit more of Christmas and a little bit more of each other. For years, we took for granted the childhood moments that had us linked together whether we liked it or not. We would go for car rides, compete over everything, fight over the remote, ride the school bus together, fight over the last chicken cutlet, have each other's back in the lunch room, steal each other's stuff and keep each other honest. Our daily existences revolved around one another until we were old enough to be the center of our own universe. It's not until we are grown up that we long to relive some of life's little growing moments that are long gone and just a distant memory that you once shared. Now, any moment with a sibling is an opportunity to bring some of our childhood back into focus. As adults we have a common perspective infused by our parents and we can add our own thoughts to the mix. As we are all parents now, we can share in our collective history in the way we raise our own kids. The memories we had of our growing up years are all common bond that our own children will now share. Cousins, they all share a commonality of the family tree. They are the essential in keeping the family flame lit and its spirit real. Someday, when we're gone, they will look to each other to carry on traditions and the love a family knows. I took these portraits in my parent's basement with the a white backdrop and props found in tucked away corners. We were missing only the twins and Trace, who somehow managed to hide behind his XBOX. Ten out of thirteen is a pretty good crowd. I enjoy the similarities of their features while seeing their own personalities shine through in each portrait. Like cookies crafted from a cutter, the similarities are unmistakable. Their colorful icings make them who they are and give us even more reason to love them. But their recipe is a family secret that goes way back; one we can all be proud of. GlennPete (says I can take three pictures)CooperCarlynnMolly |
